Recycle Cardboard As A Canvas

German artist Berni Valenta draws animation on recycled cardboard. He has 100 pieces of his recycled cardboard animation on display at "My 100 Cardboards"

When I came across Berni Valenta's work I thought of children's art classes. It would be a fun lesson to introduce the artist, show his work, talk about using recycled materials in art and then let the class play.I have not done this yet. If any of you do I would love to hear about it.

If you like art with recycled cardboard you may want to see the work of cardboard sculptor Chris Gilmore

Hair Art Helps Hunger

The more I do this, the more I see that artists can, will, and do use anything and everything to create art. I think I have seen it all only to learn that I really don't know much at all.

The International Fantasy Hair Competition (held in Manchester, NH this past April) is a competition for "Hair" artists.

The event ,with prizes including $7,500, attracted stylists from around the country and proceeds from the event went to the New Hampshire Food Bank.

And the winner..."The Proud Peacock" designed by Kevin Carter of "The Artistry of Hair" (model Amaris Brown)

Deadline for Mum artwork

Preschool Art-Imagination

This week our lesson was on imagination in art.

I had planned to read Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson but when I went to the library to check it out I learned there was an HBO production on DVD of all the books in the series including Harold and the Purple Crayon.

Instead of the book we watched the 21 minute movie.

After we talked about Harold's imagination and his purple crayon art.

Throughout the movie the moon follows Harold on his adventure. We began our project with each child gluing a moon on their paper.

Then they drew pictures from their imaginations with crayons.
With the movie fresh on their minds most of the drawings included things from the movie but with their own twist. One little girl drew her whole family in Harold's boat.

The finished pictures were fun and creative. Children don't really need lessons to practice using their imagination. They're already experts.

Bubble Art

Pep Bou is a performing artist who also creates visual art
in a very unusual medium...
soap bubbles!

In the 1970's the Spanish artist began performing as a mime.
Later he turned to bubbles, mastering techniques that allow the medium to create amazing visual effects.

His fragile temporary art delights and entertains viewers
