The other day my kindergarten/1st grade class explored circles. They began by looking around the studio for objects with circle shapes.
Next we used an idea from Ed Emberly's book Picture Pie.

The class glued paper circle and pie shapes onto a sheet of card stock to make birds.

They thought this project was okay.

But when I asked if they wanted to continue using the paper shapes to create more pictures, most were not interested instead they wanted to draw pictures with circles.

One student drew by seeing the round shapes in wood carvings he discovered in the studio.

Was searching around and happened to see this post from awhile back... Isnt it interesting... I bet if you asked adults if they would rather draw or cut shapes... my guess is they would prefer to draw. As adults we have that belief.. oh I can't draw if i'm not a "real" artist... children are so much more open.
