Kids Art Class- Finishing Personalized Portfolios

In my children's class we worked on Personalized Portraits. One session was not enough to finish the project so we carried the lesson over for a second week.

Before the second class I measured each portfolio for handles and marked the place with dots.

First they finished the drawings they started the week before. They chose to draw most of their pictures from their imagination. But from time to time I ran to find props that could be used as references.

After filling the portfolio cover with pencil drawings, they outlined them with black markers and used colored pencils and/or markers to to fill in the drawings.

We talked about layering colors with colored pencil for shading and variety.

As the class was coloring their drawings. I punched holes and helped attach ribbon handles .

I think we could have carried this over for a third week and most of the class would have been happy. But instead we decided to let them finish at home.

  1. Thanks a lot for posting. You have helped me get an idea on what to do as a project for my kids this summer. We haven't tried coloring as a big project though. I have seen forums discussing coloring books, apart from the very colorful books, I would be able to help enhance my kids' arts skills.
